I have been in, around, planned, photographed, and officiated weddings since I was one. My cousin and I, Irish twins, were flower girl and ring bearer for our uncle's 1983 wedding. With several ceremonies in between, including my own, I made it to Matron of Honor in 2015.
This wedding was special in so many ways. My husband's youngest brother and best friend married his long time sweetheart on my favorite holiday, Halloween, to prepare to adopt my three nieces, the bridesmaids. In addition to being matron of honor, my husband was, of course, best man, and our three sons were the groomsmen. It was a family affair through and through. My brother-in-law has since passed, bringing a bittersweetness to that memory.
I was very hands on in the planning of both his wedding and his funeral. In addition to my lifelong participation in weddings, I have almost as much experience with funerals. Whether a small, intimate memorial, like my brother and I did for our mother, or an elaborate affair with a great deal of speakers and a church so crowded people were outside listening, every life deserves a beautiful end.
